Combined Pedals Mode
In combined pedals mode the input is mapped to single axis (Y-axis). The input from both pedals is sent as a single input to the game. As a result, you can effectively use only one pedal at a time. If you depress both pedals equally, the signals cancel each other out and the game responds as if the pedals are not depressed.
You can verify the operation of combined mode pedals as follows:
Open the "Game controllers" test page, click the "Settings" button.
Select "Combined" mode.
Close "Game Controllers".
Run the POSWDM utility.
Press the pedals and observe that the Y axis reports the combined accelerator and pedal information.
Separate Pedals Mode
In separate pedals mode the input is mapped to two separate axes. The input from each pedal is sent separately to the game, so you can use both pedals at the same time. For instance, you can brake with one pedal while revving the engine with the other.
In separate pedals mode the accelerator input is normally mapped to the Z axis, and the brake input is usually mapped to the rZ axis. However, it is possible that the accelerator mapping can very depending on the exact version of DirectX and the operating systems version.
You can verify the operation of combined mode pedals as follows:
Open the "game controllers" test page, click the "Settings" button.
Ensure that the "Combined" box in unchecked.
Close "game controllers".
Run the POSWDM utility.
Press the pedals and observe that axis data is reported independently for both the accelerator and brake.
Pedal Problems In A Game ?
As a first step you can use the Microsoft® POWSDM utility to ensure that the pedals data is correctly reported to the host. Following these steps will allow you confirm that the Logitech hardware and the software components are working correctly. Assuming this step works correctly you are most likely dealing with a game configuration issue.
Check with the game developer to see that the game does in fact support the select pedals mode. Some things to keep in mind:
Most games will support combined pedals mode
Not all games support separate pedals mode. Separate pedals mode is often not supported in older games. Separate pedals mode is often not supported in arcade style games.
Ideally all games should read all the axes on a device. However, there are some games that only read a limited set of axes.

Do all Logitech® wheels support combined pedals mode ?
Yes.
Do all Logitech® wheels support separate pedals mode ?
No. In order to support separate pedals mode the wheel must have a microprocessor (i.e. analog gameport devices do no have a microprocessor). In addition Logitech® only supplies basic driver support for gameport devices under Windows® 2000/XP.
The following products do not have separate pedals mode functionality:
Logitech® WingMan® Formula™ GP (gameport version)
The following products do not have separate pedals mode functionality under Windows® 2000/XP when connected to the gameport:
Logitech® WingMan® Formula™ - Black
Logitech® WingMan® Formula™ - Yellow
Change in separate pedals mapping for WingMan® Formula™ Force under Windows® 2000/XP in release 4.11C ?
The pedal mapping was changed for WingMan® Formula™ Force product under Windows® 2000/XP in the WingMan® Software 4.11C release. The mapping of the pedal axes in separate mode is modified to make it work with a larger number of games (e.g. GP3 and F12000 did not read the accelerator axis correctly under Windows® 2000 ... now with the new mapping these games should read the accelerator axis).
If you are using WingMan® Formula™ Force under Windows® 2000/XP and upgrade to Logitech® Software release 4.11C you may have to modify your game configuration settings to use the new accelerator axis mapping.
