Battlefield: 1942™

I am using a Logitech® Freedom 2.4™ Cordless Joystick.  The sticks falls asleep when I am not flying, and it does not wake up fast enough.

The best solution that will save battery life would be to press a button on the joystick to wake it up as you are moving toward the plane.

How do I set up a joystick or gamepad to move the turrets?

Unfortunately, there is no option within the game to assign joystick or gamepad axes to the turret controls.  The turret only takes input from the mouse.  With a gamepad, you can set up mouse emulation via Profiler.  However, Profiler does not allow mouse emulation for joysticks.

How do I set up a joystick?

When using my WingMan® RumblePad™, or WingMan® Cordless RumblePad™ in Battlefield: 1942, I cannot assign commands in the game to the "Right Mini Joystick" Y-axis.  Why?

Unfortunately, it appears that the game does not poll that particular axis from within the game.  We have contacted EA already in regards to this issue.  To get around this issue, you can do one of 2 things:-

Re-map the Right Joystick Y-Axis to "Throttle"...

This will assign the "Throttle" slider axis to the Right Joystick Y-Axis.  Now, from with Battlefield: 1942 you can assign commands to the control.

Setup keyboard commands via Profiler to do something else useful (see the Profiler FAQ for details).

How do I setup up Battlefield: 1942 to use my WingMan® RumblePad™, or WingMan® Cordless RumblePad™ for the vehicles?

To assign Battlefield: 1942 to make use of the controls on the WingMan® RumblePad™, or WingMan® Cordless RumblePad™, please do the following:-

If done correctly, then the items should be assigned as follows:-

Speed Up

Joystick Axis 2+

Slow Down

Joystick Axis 2-

Rudder Left

Joystick Axis 3-

Rudder Right

Joystick Axis 3+

Pitch Up

Joystick Axis 1-

Pitch Down

Joystick Axis 1+

Roll Left

Joystick Axis 0-

Roll Right

Joystick Axis 0+

If done correctly, then the items should be assigned as follows:

Speed Up

Joystick Axis 2+

Slow Down

Joystick Axis 2-

Turn Left

Joystick Axis 0-

Turn Right

Joystick Axis 0+

Optimizing Joystick Performance

Thanks to forum poster "Machina" for this information.

I made an excel spread sheet to get new values from the original calibration data.  I made it much easier than the 1st I sent.  I wish the GUI had this in it! Hint Hint! Include it with the software if you like, it would make tweaking for noobs allot easier.

A couple things that the default calibration lacks, Up and Down should point slightly upwards, this will prevent the nose from dipping every time you let go to re-center stick.  Without this being done the stick feels like a waste of money.  Turning left and right, you need to be able to snap turns, the default takes too long to register and you have to hit the side walls of the stick to make it move.  The new values (with a deadzone) makes it much more responsive.  The throttle, well who goes backwards full speed in a plane anyway?  Nobody so what I did was move the throttle to start at 1/4.

Also, after getting a more updated version of the stick it had no calibration button in the control panels "gaming options".  My friend has similar issue in XP, same stick and driver.  So what we used was the raw values from DXTweak, which is actually even easier with the 0-255 or 0-1024.  The old values were out in left field like 313 579 804, now its 0 512 1024 much easier!  But noobs may not realize even without the control panel - gaming options - calibration button, you can still get the center, min and max calibrated values.  So I added a section on how to do it without the control panel calibration in the loop.
