I'm having the same problem with a red momo force wheel. I am also in the proscess of finding the problem. It feels like the steering rack has to much play between the gears. Ive had the wheel apart sevral times (cleaning pots, lubing gears, even resoderd a slightly loose wire) all with no improvement. I have been wanting to buy a new pot and FF motor but have not found a PN or place to buy the stuff. Even called Logitech, they said I was out of warrenty (which I knew had it five years and its worked great) but they do not sell parts, although maybe I should of ask them if they know someone who does.
A new wheel is not in the budget anytime soon :(.

A long long time ago, at a computer not far from here...
I got a wingman formula GP quite some time ago as a gift. It never quite worked right. What happens is when you turn the wheel across center, it "sticks" to the side you came from, until you get to a point in the opposite side, at which point the steering signal jumps over center. It kind of makes things maddening.
It's definitely not the pot, I've replaced it twice with no change. Also definitely not the software, as it does the same under multiple operating systems.
It's sort of usable for some games if you enlarge the dead zone to encompass the jump points, but that's kind of a large dead zone.
Last ditch suggestions short of "replace it"?
