my theory was correct. I had the big thumb button mapped to f11 (which was mapped as 2nd fire). I had the small button mapped to f12 (flak cannon). I could reproduce the problem every time in game (Unreal Tournament 2004):
Hold down the big thumb
Press the small thumb
Release the big thumb
This did not release the big thumb and instead the secondary fire keeps firing. So there is a problem somewhere.
After trying to map different keystrokes with no luck, I went back to the default Button4/Button5 configuration. This worked and I no longer have the problem.
(btw, I was using the F11/F12 trick only because previous versions of the game did not recognize Button4/5. This apparently has been addressed.)

MX510 - greatest mouse ever. But I have one problem that is just driving me crazy.
There are times when my "secondary fire" is stuck. So, I'll be in a heavy firefight and my secondary fire just keeps shooting even after I let the button go. Won't stop until after I hit it again.
My current theory is that the mouse cannot handle two buttons getting hit simultaneously. My secondary fire is the lower thumb button and I wonder if I'm hitting the upper thumb at the same time. I still need to test this.
Anyway, any knowledge about this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
